GEORGE C. SIOUGAS

I was born in Athens Greece and studied at the London Film School (LFS) where I made 5 short films which competed in more than 30 international short film festivals. Between them they won 7 Best Film and 4 Best Director awards. Two of these shorts have since gone on to be used as examples of “High Quality and Vision” in the LFS curriculum.

 

I returned to Greece in 2002 CLOSE YOUR EYES (S02) and SUDDENLY, both High End dramas for Greece's biggest network at the time, Mega Channel. The shows were popular and kickstarted my TV career, winning between them 4 awards at the 2003 and 2004 Hellenic TV Awards including Best Director. This success enabled me to work non-stop for the next 11 years across both the High End and continuing drama platforms for the next 11 years.

 

Burning Heads (Greek title “To Gala”), my debut feature, was released in Greece in 2012 (Odeon). It was nominated for 11 awards by the Hellenic Film Academy including Best Director, and went on to win Best Male Actor and Best Female Actor awards at the Alexandria Film Festival (2012) as well as Best Actor and Best Film at the  London Greek Film Festival (2012). In addition, it was selected to close the Los Angeles Greek Film Festival in 2012.

 

When Greece's economy collapsed in 2011, my family and I relocated to Cyprus where I continued to direct several TV dramas over the next four years. 

 

In 2015 my family and I moved to the UK where I have established myself as a well sought out director. 

 

In 2023 I wrote and directed THE ONE NOTE MAN, a short film starring BAFTA winner Jason Watkins with the voice of Ian McKellen and music by Oscar winning composer Stephen Warbeck. The film was Oscar® shortlisted in the Best Live Action Short Film category as well as BAFTA® short listed in the Best British Short Film category. It has so far won 40 international awards including 21 Best Short Film awards.

I am currently developing THE ONE NOTE MAN feature film and I'm attached to direct COCERTO, a comedy and CARNIVAL, a heist movie in 2025 and 2026 respectively.
